In The Pulpit
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929-1968 (Click for more info) This month, In The Pulpit honors Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., slain civil rights leader and celebrated orator. On Nov. 3, 1983 President Ronald Reagan signed into law a decree marking the 3rd Monday of January as a national holiday honoring Dr. King's birth on January 15, 1929. Since then, we as Christians have utilized this occassion to celebrate the life of Dr. King, reflect on his message, and draw awareness to the ongoing struggle faced by people of all colors, creeds, and denominations for equality, acceptance, and basic decency of Spirit. Keep Hope Alive!
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." Such were the prophetic words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As Christians worldwide mark the arrival of the 21st Century, indeed, a new millenium, we at Praise feel it is very fitting that the ocassion coincides with the 15th observance of the national holiday honoring the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We need not remind you that Dr. King was a man of great vision, diligent perserverance, and eloquent and moving speech. His voice shaped a movement and his dreams visualized a world of peace, brotherhood, and mutual respect and understanding. It is hoped that today, some thirty-three years after his martyrdom, mankind has learned from King's message and life-lessons. Yes, as we look back over the centuries since the Great Diaspora and beyond, we have come a long way. However, most assuredly, as we look ahead to even more challenging times, we as a people truly have some ways to go. Praise wishes all its readers to utilize the next 30-days as an opportunity to reflect on the life of Dr. King and remember the struggle and sacrifice of our forebearers. Consider ways you might yourself make a difference so that we all can say that we have done our collective parts to , well...keep hope alive. That said, as we oft say, thank you for your continued fellowship and support and, of course, if you live in or plan to visit our beautiful city of Tallahassee, don't forget to stop by and help us sing His praises for--at the "Little Church in the Bond Community Where Everybody is Somebody Special!"--you are always most certainly welcome.
