The Joke Corner

"There will be a meeting of the Board immediately after the service," announced the pastor. After the close of the service, the group gathered at the back of the auditorium for the announced meeting. But there was a stranger in their midst. He was a visitor who had never attended their church before. "My friend," asked the pastor, did you understand that this is a meeting of the Board?" "Yes," said the visitor, "and after that sermon, I'm about as bored as you can get!"

NOTE: If you have an interesting tidbit that you beleive Praise might be interested in, please submit info to our editor via email or contact Bro. Mike Catledge after worship services.

Scoring For Christ!

KennyBrownSunday, October 8 has been designated "Youth Athletics Day" by Flipper Chapel's hardworking Board of Christian Education. In keeping with its endeavor to dedicate each and every 2nd Sunday to the youth of the Church, the Board anticipates this event will bring much needed recognition to the many dedicated young Flipperites who participate in collegiate, high school, intramural and other inner city community sport-orientated organizations--much like our very own Master Kenny Brown (left), a member of a local softball league. Rev. Michael Williams of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church will be the keynote speaker for the event and the theme shall be: "Young Christian Athletes Scoring With Christ". As usual, Sunday's worship service will be followed by a home-cooked meal prepared by our beloved Hospitality Committee. We certainly hope you come out and help us encourage our young people to be good Christians and productive well-rounded individuals in today's often-chaotic society

Growing in Mind, Body and Spirit!

CandisPrideLast month Flipper Chapel's Young People's Division gathered on .......... for an organizational meeting officiated by its outgoing director, Sis. Lucy Pride, who has been pegged to serve as the new director of Sarah Doyle Way Area WMS/YPD. In addition to introducing the attending YPDers to their new director, Sis. Ruby Edwards (who will be assisted by Bro. Michael Catledge), Sis, Pride supervised the nominations for those individuals who will be vying to serve as officers of the Flipper Chapel YPD in one capacity or another for the year 2000-2001. Elections will be held accordingly on Wednesday, October 11 at 6pm. Other issues discussed at the meeting included upcoming YPD events and the scheduling of a "Sleep In" sometime at the end of October. Sis. Pride and the incoming directors were certainly gladdened by the large turnout at the meeting and are optimistic that the YPD will continue to grow in mind, body, and spirit throughout the year. Following the gathering, the YPDers, the directors, and parents were treated to bowls of home made Gumbo prepared lovingly by Pastor Bell. For those adults who would like to help out with meals for future YPD meetings, there will be a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board following services on Sunday, October 1.

You Go Boy!

On Saturday, September 16 our very own Master Christopher Underhill (10) attended the Shake Off Tobacco Youth Rally, an all-day event held at Bethel by the Lake Retreat and hosted by Bethel AME Church. Master Underhill, who represented Flipper in his age group, walked away with 1st Place in poster creation, 3rd Place in coloring, and he won a medallion for his drawing. The rally, which was covered by representatives of the local braodcast media, featured a cook-out, a brain bowl, swimming, and a host of other fun-filled activities. Those in attendance were treated to a very informative presentation detailing the destructiveness of tobacco usage, the many varied forms of tobacco consumption, and ways the community might come together and stamp out the abuse of tobacco among our youth. Congratulations Chris, we are all so very proud.
