Burn, Baby Burn!
Hosanna in the highest be praised! Gleefully, on Sunday, November 26 at 4pm the officers and members of Flipper Chapel will gather proudly in the presence of Pastor Bell and, blessedly, Rev. Benny Johnson (left), an immediate former pastor of our great church, for our long-awaited Mortgage Burning Ceremony. Additionally, we shall also be singularly honored by the august attendance of the Presiding Prelate of the Eleventh Episcopal District (Florida), Bishop John Hurst Adams, for this momentous event. The originally six-figure mortgage on the church was finally paid off in full back in August2000. However, the coinciding implementation of the our new bishop, coupled with his pressing schedule, has delayed the holding of the upcoming ceremony until such time as we could be certain of his presence. Nevertheless, we are just as anxious to be symbolically rid of the offending document this fall as we were to be physically debt-free late last summer! Rev. Johnson, during whose pastorship our present sanctuary was erected back in 1993, is fittingly earmarked to deliver a special address as he was present when the mortgage was first negotiated. We would be less than forthcoming if we failed to recognize the many sacrifices, both financial and spiritual, made by the various dedicated members and officers of this great church without whose untiring perseverance and hard-work this historic feat would not have been possible. Special accolades most assuredly go out to those Flipperites whose names and likenesses have been immortalized on our "Dedicated Service" wall in the Memorial Hall for their more-than generous monetary contributions toward the realization of this milestone. There are, Dr. C.E. Walker, Sis. Rosa Rosier, Sis Beulah Gregory, Sis. China Evans, Sis. Carrie Herring, Bro. Marion Johnson, Bro. Samuel Johnson, Sis. Diedre D. Powell, Sis. Marie Scales, and Bro. Eddie Randall. We hope all Flipperites will find it not robbery to come out that afternoon for what will certainly be one for the history books!
Improving With Age?
Well, well, well. It seems this month a certain someone will be celebrating his birthday. Hmmm...wonder who it could be? Oh, yeah...Pastor Bell! In that case…Happy Birthday Pastor Bell! We hope, like fine wine, you continue to improve with age! In keeping with this significant occasion, the Pastor's Aid Board cordially invites one and all to a special birthday bash to be held in his honor on the evening of Tuesday, November 21 at 7pm. As well as the usual party trappings, the Board has tapped the Step and Inspirational Dance ministries to present a special tribute to the guest of honor. And, yes, judging by the number of candles necessary to mark the occasion right...they'll be plenty of birthday cake to go around!
A Ministry with A Mission and a Heart
This year Pastor Bell has pegged Sis. Laura Adams (left), a dedicated and outspoken member of Flipper Chapel whose truly at one with the Lord, as the new director of the Ministry of Membership, Evangelism and Worship, a post left vacant by the departure of former Flipperite Sis. ViElla Balloon Lindsey, newlywed wife of Rev. Stacey Lindsey. Sis Adams' appointment is certainly on mark as she's has been a tireless soldier in His service and has shown by example the great deeds one can accomplish if you place Him first in all things. This is indeed appropriate as the specific charge of the ministry she now heads is to reach out and coordinate the orientation of new members, as well as oversee the spirtitual and emotional needs of the entire congregation. In her capacity, Sis Adams will be working with the Pastor to co-ordinante revivals, chair Flipper's annual Church Womens Conference, and monitor a Prayer Request Line and other soul-enriching projects soon to be implemented at Flipper. Sis. Adams is a native of Charlotte, NC and has been "happily" married to Bro. Carl Adams for twrnty-three years. The couple has a son, Parise, and a foster child, Master Christopher Underhill, an active member of the Youth Church. A member of the Foster Parent Association, she works tirelessly on behalf of the local Boys and Girlstown organization. |
