FAMU's Top Cop

CalvinRossOn Jan. 5, 2001 FAMU hired Calvin Ross, as chief of the FAMU Campus Police. Filling in the position vacated by the late Chief Charles Hobbs, Chief Ross was formerly the chief of the Miami Police Department. In an article first puiblished in the Jan issue of the Capital Outlook, the new chief states: "I am excited about the possibility of involving the (FAMU) student body in creating a safe environment. The student body and faculty need to feel like the police are a part of them not apart from them." As we as a church prepare to celebrate and recognize the vital role our area's protective service personnel play in the community, we at Praise wish to extend our congratulations and heartfelt welcome to FAMY's newest top cop!

At The Center

FAMUOrchesisWalker-Ford Community Center, named in part in honor of our very own Bro. C. E. Walker, is sponsoring two events this month that we feel may be of interest to our readership. On Friday, Feb. 16th the Center will host their annual Black History Program between the hours of 7pm and 10pm. The event boasts several memorable highlights including performances by FAMU's Marching 100 and Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theatre (left), as well as an appreance by local personality JoJo McManus. Please mark your calendars to attend. On Saturday, Feb. 24th, the Center will host a day-long, apparently women's health-oriented, event entitled 'Feminine Secrets' between the hours 10am and 9pm. For more information regarding this event and others, please call the Center at (850) 891-3920.
